Stereotypes. We all hate them, and yet we all use them. I mean, what exactly makes somebody a 'prep,' and what makes somebody a 'geek,' and so on... Is it how they talk? How well they do in school? What they wear? There are hundreds of reasons why someone can be categorized, but does that really mean their personality matches what they portray from the outside?
A person should be judged on what kind of person they are on the inside, not on how they look or who they hang out with. Actually, people should NOT be categorized at all. We categorize animals, not people...
In school, I knew a girl. Lets say her name was 'Sam.' 'Sam' used to always wear black clothing, she had lots of piercings, and she wore heavy eyeshadow and eyeliner. I bet you already categorized her as a 'goth,' didn't you..? Well she heard this comment a lot and she would always ask me, "what is a goth!?" I had no idea what to say because honestly, I have noo idea either. Well, let me tell you what type of person Sam was. She had blonde hair, she was on the cheerleading squad, and she was one of the nicest people I have ever met! Whenever I was upset, I knew she would always be there for me to make me laugh because she was very comical!
So this is my point. Yes I know people do stereotype themselves, but what's the point? Wear what you want because you like it. Talk how you want because that's the way you want to portray yourself. There is no point in having a 'reason' for why you are the way you are. So rather than saying "Hy, my name is ____ and I am a ____," just say "Hy my name is___" and let that be the end of it! Just as long as you stay true to yourself and you know your happy the way you are, then you don't need to justify your actions to others by makings reasons for why you 'always wear pink,' or why you 'always ride on a skateboard' and why you 'always get A's.' Let your personality shine, and don't let a silly little stereotype shape you into a person.
